During a hearing on border security, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is asked by Committee Chair Bennie Thompson whether Customs and Border Protection is still putting children in cages at border facilities. Secretary Nielsen says in response: "We don't use cages for children." When pressed on the issue, she says: "To my knowledge CPB never purposefully put a child in a cage." She goes on to say that children are processed at border facility locations, but she insists that "they're not cages." close
