White House Calls on Governors, Mayors to Extend Eviction Moratoriums

White House COVID-19 Funds Coordinator Gene Sperling says the Biden Administration is calling on governors and mayors to extend eviction moratoriums. The move comes as a federal moratorium expires following a ruling by the Supreme Court saying an extension would require congressional authorization. Mr. Sperling also says that agencies that provide mortgage-backed lending extend their moratoriums that are within their power. And he says that those with federally backed mortgages may not evict without 30 days notice and should seek emergency rental assistance funding to cover back rent. close
