In a speech in the Rose Garden with the leaders of Finland and Sweden at his side, President Biden offers his "strong support" for both countries to join NATO, calling it a "momentous day." The president says NATO was formed "out of the wreckage of World War II" and has proved itself as an "indispensable alliance" in the decades since that has been committed to a Europe "whole free and at peace." The president says that doubts began to arise in recent years about the relevance and effectiveness of the alliance. "Today there is no question. NATO is relevant. It is effective. And it is more needed now than ever," he says. close
