Israeli retaliation was expected but unknown at the time of the news conference. President Bush praised Israel for its restraint in not immediately attacking Iraq after the SCUD bombardment, and also pledged the full and unified support of the United States to the members of the U.S. armed forces in the Persian Gulf.
