Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley announced the withdrawal of the U.S. from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Ambassador Haley called the UNHRC “a protector of human rights abusers and a cesspool of political bias,” citing its membership of countries that violate human rights and an alleged bias against Israel. The ambassador added that the U.S. would be willing to rejoin the council should it be reformed. close
