Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie and other department officials testified before a House Appropriations subcommittee on the agency’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. Secretary Wilkie provided an update on the care the VA had provided throughout the pandemic and talked about some of the upcoming challenges. Subcommittee members asked about reports of personal protective equipment (PPE) and testing shortages as well as the prescribing of hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus patients. Members also urged the secretary to remove swastikas from the gravestones of German prisoners of war who were buried in VA cemeteries. close
