Viewers commented on Congress passing a 48-day continuing resolution to fund the government until November 17, thus averting a shutdown and missing the midnight deadline by mere hours. In the House of Representatives, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was only able to pass the bill with help from Democrats. More Democrats (209) voted “aye” than Republican (126). The Senate passed the stop-gay measure just after 9 p.m., and President Biden signed it before midnight. close
