Ronald Nessen, journalist in residence at the Brookings Institute, moderated a panel discussion of U.S. trade policy. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Paul Craig Roberts, assistant Treasury secretary for economic policy during the Reagan administration, co-authored an op-ed piece in January 6 New York Times. Both of them elaborated on their article calling for reexamination of U.S. trade policies in light of changes in the global economy and possible revisions of those policies reflecting the “new realities.” Other topics included U.S. business views on trade issues, international economics, and others. After their presentations and discussion, the panelists answered audience members' questions. close
