Debate was halted for more than an hour as the parliamentarian reviewed a Republican request that some of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) words be stricken from the record. While the review was happening, Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) abandoned the speaker’s chair after making brief remarks. Members voted against striking those remarks.
Lawmakers also passed a rule for debate on a resolution finding Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with congressional subpoenas relating to the 2020 Census citizenship question.
