The governor’s committee on trade discussed the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) during the National Governor’s Association’s summer meeting taking place in Tulsa, OK. Administration officials outlined agreements concerning the minimum wage, environmental concerns, and the maquiladoras, foreign owned companies which operate in Mexico and export the majority of the products they produce largely duty and tariff free. The governors held a bipartisan view that NAFTA would largely benefit American workers and manufacturing. close
