Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) held a news conference a day after the security breach of the U.S. Capitol. The mayor was joined by District of Columbia Acting Police Chief Robert Contee, Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy, and other public officials. Secretary McCarthy said a seven-foot, non-scalable fence would be erected around the Capitol grounds and 6,200 National Guard members would be present in the District for at least 30 days. Acting Police Chief Contee told reporters that 68 arrests had been made thus far, and his department was seeking information about persons of interest involved in the security breach. close
