Many historians consider the 1863 Battle of Chancellorsville to be Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s greatest victory. Facing a Union Army more than twice the size of his own, Lee divided his forces, sending General “Stonewall” Jackson on a daring flank attack that turned the tide of the fight. Author Kristopher White discussed the battle and detailed Lee’s strategy. He also looked at what the victory cost Lee in terms of men and officers lost and the consequences for the Army of Northern Virginia going forward This talk was part of a symposium hosted by the “Emerging Civil War” blog. close
