John Sopko, special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction (SIGAR), said Afghans who worked with the U.S. during the war and remain in the country are being sought out and murdered by the Taliban. In addition, he told lawmakers U.S. weapons and military equipment left behind during the August 2021 withdrawal were being repurposed and used by the Taliban.
