Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer stops short of calling for the resignation of his New Jersey colleague Senator Robert Menendez following his indictment on bribery charges. The majority leader calls the allegations "disturbing" and "upsetting" and says the alleged conduct fell short of the standard expected of senators. He also confirms that Senator Menendez will address his colleagues in a private meeting on Thursday. Asked about averting a government shutdown, Senator Schumer urges the House to pass a bipartisan Senate stop-gap bill that would fund the government until November 17. Lawmakers have three days to pass a bill to keep the government open. close
