President Clinton spoke to the nation in a televised address from the Oval Office to announce the U.S. military’s action against military targets in Iraq. The president announced that he ordered a military strike against Iraq after an investigation by U.S. agencies revealed an Iraqi plot to assassinate former President Bush during his visit to Kuwait in early 1993. He recalled the colonial American motto, “Don’t tread on me,” in discussing the missile attack against the command and control centers in Iraq. The address was initially aired on the three major television networks at 7:45 p.m. E.S.T. close
