Academics spoke at the Atlantic Council’s conference on Chinese influence in the Global South. They discussed why China is interested in currying favor with developing nations in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and other regions, explaining it is part of China’s strategy to remake the international order. National University of Singapore’s Bilahari Kausikan said that, despite this goal, the developing world does not think of the U.S. and China as an either/or scenario, but sees benefits in having solid relations with both superpowers. close
