Commissioners heard reports for staff members and considered several motions and amendments to Defense Department recommendations.
In the afternoon of the first day of the final hearings, motions focused of recommendations for joint cross services base closures. Mr. Van Saun and his analysts presented analyses of the seven joint cross service groups consisting of 71 recommendations and 438 discreet actions proposed. The seven groups of the Department of Defense are education and training, headquarters and support, industrial, intelligence, medical, supply and storage, and technical.
